Balmaceda and Serrano Glaciers

Season: October to April

The navigation departs from the heart of Puerto Natales and travels along the Última Esperanza Fjord toward Bernardo O’Higgins National Park, in one of the most iconic experiences in Chilean Patagonia. This captivating journey begins early in the morning from Puerto Natales’ Muelle Prat and takes you to the impressive Balmaceda and Serrano Glaciers, accessible only by sea.
Throughout the trip, you sail through a landscape shaped by the Southern Patagonian Ice Field—the largest ice mass in the Americas—within Bernardo O’Higgins National Park, Chile’s largest protected area and one of the four largest in the world, covering more than 4,300,000 hectares. Along the fjord, the scenery becomes a true natural spectacle, with views of the historic remains of the former Frigorífico Bories, small Patagonian ranches, waterfalls cascading from cliffs, hanging glaciers, a colony of imperial cormorants, and rocky outcrops inhabited by sea lions.
As part of the experience, there is a landing to visit Serrano Glacier, followed by an approximately 1.5-hour walk along a marked trail leading to a viewpoint near this majestic river of ice. Back on board, passengers enjoy a traditional whisky served with ancient ice before continuing the cruise toward Balmaceda Glacier, which can be admired from the outer decks—bringing an unforgettable day to a close amid one of southern Chile’s most pristine landscapes.
