Exploring Grey Glacier is a voyage into Patagonia’s frozen heart. This experience takes you across Lake Grey aboard a modern catamaran, gliding among blue ice floes and towering glacial walls that form part of the majestic Southern Patagonian Ice Field, within Torres del Paine National Park.
Over approximately three hours of sailing, the scenery shifts constantly: icebergs drifting in steel-gray waters, native forests lining the shore, layered rock hills, and snow-capped peaks rising above the lake. Along the way, views of Paine Grande and the Paine Massif accompany the route, while the Patagonian wind and the creaking of the ice create a one-of-a-kind atmosphere. With a bit of luck, you may even witness the natural calving of ice blocks crashing into the water.
Before boarding, there is a scenic 30–45-minute walk along Grey Beach, adding an adventurous touch and direct contact with the landscape. The trail is of moderate difficulty and is not suitable for strollers or visitors with reduced mobility.
The excursion offers several daily departure times, depending on the season and demand. On board, you can enjoy beverages while taking in the striking contrast between ancient ice and the mountain scenery that defines Torres del Paine.

The actual walking time is approximately 8 hours, with a moderate elevation gain of 500 meters. The usual itinerary begins at 6:30 a.m. and ends around 9:00 p.m., with the main attractions being the view of the blue icebergs, the “Quebrada de los Vientos” (Wind Canyon), and the imposing front of the Grey Glacier. You should check the catamaran schedules to plan your trip well, as schedules vary depending on the season.
